Taiji (Tai Chi) is Daoist philosophy expressed through movement: the principles of nature, worked out in the structure of the human body. The Roots of Taiji is a three-day intensive for people who want to start this art with attention to quality and bring it into their daily life.
The workshop leaves aside the long, complex choreography of traditional forms and focuses on the internal mechanics that give Taiji its value for health, longevity and mental clarity.
Over three days of practice you will build a foundation from the ground up: correct posture, precise footwork and weight shifting. Working with the continuous interplay of Yin and Yang in the body, you will leave with a short, clear daily sequence that helps calm the nervous system, release physical tension and build a steady inner calm you can take anywhere.
Move like water. Stay rooted like a mountain. This workshop is open to anyone who wants to begin a genuine daily practice.
Highlights
Principle Over Form
Leave the choreography aside and learn the core mechanics that define authentic Taiji movement.
The Daily Sequence
A clear, compact set of practices you can continue on your own, every day.
Rooted Shifting
Precise weight distribution and balance to stay stable while you move.
Pillars of the Practice
- The Foundations of Taiji Mechanics: The essentials of internal movement. We study how to relax the upper body, open the joints and produce continuous, fluid motion, so every movement is supported by structure rather than muscular effort.
- Footwork & Grounding: Rooting and stepping. You will work on your connection to the ground and on the precise weight transfers that improve balance, strengthen the legs and steady your attention.
- Daoist Philosophy in Motion (Wu Wei): The principle of non-forcing, Wu Wei (無為). Slow, deliberate practice teaches you to let go of resistance and move with the natural flow of the body, so the form becomes a moving meditation.
- The Daily Health Sequence: A complete, compact Taiji routine for daily life, structured to mobilize the joints, support circulation and nourish vital energy in a short time.
- Yin-Yang Balance & the Nervous System: Balancing active alignment with deep relaxation. The slow, steady rhythm of Taiji helps settle the nervous system, clear mental noise and bring the mind to stillness.
